A Season-by-Season Guide to Pests and Wildlife in New Hampshire

Spring (March – May)
Carpenter ant swarmers appear on warm days. Raccoons and squirrels are nesting in attics. Skunks dig under decks. Termite swarms happen after rain. This is the best time to start a pest control plan and schedule squirrel removal before litters are born.
Summer (June – August)
Mosquitoes and ticks peak. Yellow jacket and hornet colonies grow. Bats are raising pups and cannot be excluded. Schedule mosquito control and wasp treatments.
Fall (September – November)
Mice, rats, stink bugs and lady beetles move indoors. Bat exclusion season reopens. Yellow jackets are at their most aggressive. Book rodent control and exclusion before the first frost.
Winter (December – February)
Squirrels, flying squirrels and mice are the main attic residents. Overwintering insects wake up on sunny days. Winter is ideal for wildlife exclusion work and attic restoration.
