Skunk Under the Deck? How to Get It Out Without Getting Sprayed
By Middle East Pest Control · New Hampshire pest control and wildlife removal experts
A skunk under the deck is a problem that only gets worse. Females raise kits there in spring, and the smell, digging and rabies risk are real.
Signs of a skunk den
A 4-inch hole with fresh dirt at the base of a deck or shed, cone-shaped holes in the lawn from grub hunting, and a faint musky odor.
Why not just block the hole?
Trapping a skunk inside means a dead animal under your deck. And a locked-out mother will dig a new hole overnight.
Spray-free removal
Professionals use covered traps that keep the skunk calm. Once removed, an L-shaped buried screen is installed around the whole structure so nothing can dig back in.
